At Asphalt Materials Inc. (AMI), safety isn’t just a box to check — it’s a core value that guides every decision we make. As we observe National Safety Month, we’re reminded that behind every hard hat and reflective vest is a person with a family, a future, and a right to return home safely.
The National Safety Council has designated a specific safety focus for each week in June, encouraging everyone to take action in different areas of safety. These weekly themes serve as valuable reminders to adopt a well-rounded approach to staying safe. At AMI, we support this initiative by integrating safety into our daily operations in the following ways:
Week One: Continuous Improvement

In 2023, the U.S. experienced 4543 preventable fatal work injuries. This is more than just a number — it represents lives lost and families forever changed. At AMI, we believe that even one preventable incident is one too many. That’s why we’re committed to continuous improvement in every aspect of our safety program — from investing in training to enhancing our on-site protocols
Week Two: Employee Engagement
Safety at AMI is not just a policy — it’s a shared responsibility. We are more than coworkers; we are a family. And like any family, we look out for one another. We foster a culture where proactive safety training is embraced and every team member is empowered to speak up, stay informed and take action when it comes to safety. It takes all of us to build and maintain a strong safety culture. From leadership to field teams, everyone plays a role in creating a safe and supportive work environment.

Week Three: Roadway Safety

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, transportation incidents accounted for 36.8% of all fatal occupational injuries in 2023. This sobering statistic emphasizes the importance of vigilance in and around work zones. That’s why we proudly supported National Work Zone Awareness Week (April 21–25, 2025) alongside our HC+M family. This year’s theme, “Respect the Zone. So We All Get Home.”, resonated deeply with our team. Every cone, vest and sign in a work zone is there for one reason: to protect lives. Week Four: Wellbeing
Safety goes beyond the physical gear we wear each day. It also includes mental health and emotional wellbeing. Fatigue, stress, substance use and workplace violence are all risks that can compromise safety on the job.
We recognize that a healthy team is a safe team. That’s why we prioritized wellbeing at our annual Safety Summit in March — it was a time for our team to reconnect, refresh safety practices and learn how to better support one another in this area. We believe that psychological safety and mental health are just as critical as hard hats and harnesses.

Moving Forward, Together
As we honor National Safety Month, we reaffirm our commitment to every member of the AMI family. We will continue to invest in training, foster open communication, and champion a culture where safety is second nature.
