The leadership at Asphalt Materials, Inc. (AMI) offered their time and resources as they visited Coburn Place, a safe haven for survivors of domestic violence, on a beautiful afternoon in September. The team stepped into apartment #301 to prepare the space to be a home to a mother and her three teenage sons.

From stocking the pantry with canned goods and meal staples to outfitting the kitchen with utensils and cookware, the team worked with care and intention throughout the unit. They added cozy lighting with floor and table lamps, hung artwork, and placed thoughtful décor to create a welcoming atmosphere. Beds were made and linens were stocked to ensure the family would feel supported and valued from the moment they walked in.

This hands-on volunteer effort was paired with a significant donation: a vehicle gifted by AMI to Coburn Place to help address one of the most pressing challenges survivors face — transportation. Reliable transportation is essential for survivors to attend court hearings, medical appointments, job interviews and other critical services that support their journey to independence.

“This vehicle donation is a natural extension of our ongoing support for Coburn Place Safe Haven — an organization we’ve proudly partnered with since 2022,” said Chip Ray, President of AMI. “We heard that getting survivors where they need to go has been a challenge. We’re glad we could provide a solution that directly supports their mission and strengthens our shared commitment to the community.”

“Access to reliable transportation is essential,” said Rachel Scott, President and CEO of Coburn Place. “This donation will have an immediate and lasting impact on survivors and their children.”

Through volunteerism and strategic giving, AMI is proud to continue to partner with this important organization. Rebecca Rivers Duncan, Business Administrator for AMI shares “I’m grateful to be part of a team that empowers those in need, reflecting our core value of doing the right thing. We’ve partnered with Coburn Place through various initiatives over the years, upon learning that transportation is the primary challenge for domestic violence survivors, we were inspired to take action and donate a vehicle, exemplifying our commitment to doing the right thing. I’m looking forward to continuing our relationship with Coburn place!”

AMI is already planning upcoming winter and spring events to continue to support the effort of Coburn to house and heal those in need.
