Meet Sarah Stephens, AMI’s Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Implementation Manager! Sarah works to streamline the company’s health and safety processes and documentation across all locations to help our teams operate more efficiently.

Before beginning her current position, Sarah started in corporate accounting with Tri-State Asphalt in 2019, now part of the AMI family of companies. Through the acquisition transition, she shifted to a role with AMI’s business systems team working on software implementation to enhance inventory management. Her background and attention to detail made her an invaluable asset to this team before transitioning to her current role in 2024.

Sarah has already made substantial contributions to the team, working on projects like revamping task management systems, implementing records management tools and streamlining documentation for operational and safety processes. She works to ensure that each location is aligned with our safety management program and trained to manage new process tasks efficiently.

Steve Clonce, EHS Director, comments on the great value Sarah brings to his team, “She is very driven to get the project and future state completed and ensures it is heading in the right direction. She’s very easy to work with and always willing to help out in whatever way she can. Her willingness to collaborate with the team is key to her success.”

In fact, working with various teams and plant locations is one of Sarah’s favorite aspects of her job, “I love working with the people—the boots on the ground. Everyone is so great and I’m really happy to be able to support them.”

Lindsay Heidrick, Safety Manager at Urbana Facility, reflects on her experience working with Sarah: “She is so patient and always willing to take a phone call to help. She made me feel confident in our new system as I took on this role.”

She supports the EHS team in any effort that they’re trying to accomplish at the plant level, building key foundations that help processes run smoothly and efficiently for our teams. She works closely with the Urbana team but enjoys getting out to as many sites as she can. Tim Andrews, Plant Manager at Urbana Facility, notes, “She is very persistent in a good way and has really helped us navigate our safety processes.”

Sarah loves working for AMI, appreciating the company’s values and support for employees, as well as its learning culture. “The mindset at AMI is that everyone has something to teach you,” she says. “I attribute much of my success to the plant managers, who are always welcoming and eager to help me learn more about the industry and their day-to-days.” This welcoming environment makes her feel that everyone is encouraged to ask questions and share ideas, which is both rewarding and motivating.

Outside of work, Sarah loves spending time with her 13-year-old son and dog. She enjoys reading from a variety of genres and engaging in outdoor activities with her family.

Looking to the future, Sarah hopes to continue learning about safety regulations and environmental safety, understanding the bigger picture of how they affect our business every day. She is looking forward to working alongside other AMI departments to further streamline safety training paths, develop a dashboard for key safety data and explore automation opportunities. She is excited to gain more knowledge from her team and use it to support the plants even further.

We are grateful for Sarah’s dedication to her work and her collaborative spirit, which have significantly contributed to AMI’s success. No matter what project she tackles next, we are confident she will excel. Thank you, Sarah, for your commitment and the positive impact you’ve made on our team!
