Happy National Intern Day! Today we celebrate all our interns and the challenging work they do at The Heritage Group. We believe that the interns of today are the leaders of tomorrow! That said, we value our interns and want to ensure they gain the best experience by learning, growing, and fostering new relationships.

The internship program was created to provide meaningful experiences to college students to allow them to grow professionally. These intern positions range from hands-on work in the lab, to graphic design, to working in the field alongside project managers. Interns can attend networking events, volunteer, learn new professional skills, and gain new friends along the way. Interns at The Heritage Group participate in engaging activities for 12 weeks alongside 50+ other peers including career panels, finance classes, project visits (including at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway!), resume workshops, and so much more!

At the end of their internship, interns present their overall experience at the companies and projects they participated in. These presentations can include, but are not limited to, their experience as an IT intern, marketing campaigns, findings from research, and brand redesigns.

The Internship Experience

We spoke to this year’s Asphalt Materials Inc. (AMI) interns about their experiences this summer.

Dan Sullivan, is a supply chain analyst intern at AMI, studying to earn a master’s degree in finance at the University of Indianapolis. “The internship has been amazing so far! Everyone at AMI has been so helpful along the way, and I am excited to see how the summer finishes up. The internship allowed me to enhance my technical and professional skills,” said Dan. “My projects have challenged me to learn more about the systems and programs we use as a company, as well as interact with people throughout. Overall, the internship has taught me a lot about the business world and what I must do to be successful.”, but he quickly realized there is so much more behind asphalt and there are thousands of people that are behind the scenes of the creation in asphalt pavement.

Austin Deeter, is an engineering intern at AMI, studying supply chain management at Indiana University. He shared what he wishes he knew prior to entering the internship and what his challenges were as an intern. “I wish I figured out that not every problem has a right answer or a solution sooner,” Austin said.” When I first encountered issues, it was a struggle for me. I’m used to looking for the one correct answer instead of experimenting with different possibilities. The most challenging part about working for AMI for me was working in an engineering position as a business major. Though I was able to adapt to my duties and open my mind to new ideas relatively quickly, it was a test of my ability to adapt to a new environment.” Even though Austin faced some struggles, he persevered, and continued to ask questions!

Naarah Holloway, is a marketing intern at AMI, studying international business at Ball State University. “My overall experience with the internship has been incredible! I’ve enjoyed going into my internship every day and leaving the day with a smile on my face. My favorite memory has been meeting all my team members and how motivating my team has been despite hardships,” stated Naarah. With the assistance and support of her team, she was able to learn all the work that goes into a marketing campaign. Naarah was able to apply what she learned throughout her college career and gain professional skills that she can use for her future career in marketing.
