Asphalt Materials, Inc. (AMI) is proud to support the Asphalt Emulsion Manufacturers Association (AEMA) and its Leadership Education and Advancement Program (LEAP), an initiative dedicated to developing the next generation of leaders in the asphalt emulsion and pavement preservation industry.
This 12-month immersive leadership program combines industry-focused coursework through the University of Arkansas with hands-on learning experiences, including tours of jobsites and facilities like asphalt plants, equipment manufacturers and aggregate operations. Participants gain a broader understanding of the process and partnerships that contribute to the success of the industry.

Kim Gessner, Lab Technician at the AMI Portage Terminal, has been involved with the LEAP Program from its origin. As a member of the inaugural class, she developed a deeper understanding of asphalt emulsions and built meaningful connections with peers across the industry. She was inspired by the program’s impact on her own professional growth and has since stayed involved, guiding future participants so they can benefit from the same opportunities and experiences.
Kim shares that one of the most valuable aspects of LEAP is the broader understanding it provides of the industry as a whole. The program goes beyond technical education, helping participants understand the “why” behind many of the challenges, opportunities and innovations that shape pavement preservation and asphalt emulsion applications. Equally important are the relationships built along the way, creating a network of professionals who learn from one another and strengthen the industry through collaboration.
“I would highly recommend LEAP to anyone in our industry. There is always something to learn or someone to connect with. It will open doors to big things in your career!”
-Kim Gessner, AMI
Our commitment to LEAP is reflected in the continued involvement of our team within the program and the association broadly. Several AMI employees have graduated from the LEAP Program over the past four classes, demonstrating our long-standing investment in continuous education. Continuing that tradition, Wesley Geiger, Operator III at the AMI Edison Terminal, is a member of the 2026-2027 LEAP class and is gaining valuable technical and leadership experience through the program. Beyond LEAP participation, AMI Regional Sales Manager Cameron Porter has served on the AEMA Board of Directors for the past few years, helping advance the association’s mission and strategic direction.
Supporting leadership education and technical training equips our team to serve customers with informed recommendations and a deeper understanding of evolving pavement preservation practices. These experiences help our team stay connected to new advancements while collaborating with industry peers to contribute to the long-term success and sustainability of the asphalt emulsion sector.
We’re proud to support organizations like AEMA that invest in people and help move our industry forward. Through continued involvement in programs like LEAP, we remain committed to developing knowledgeable leaders who will shape the future of asphalt for years to come.
