We take pride in honoring our veteran employees as part of our commitment to showing appreciation for their service. Today, we are excited to spotlight Julie Mackey, a veteran and lab manager at our Marietta, Ohio, plant.

After completing her military service, Julie moved to Ohio with her husband and daughter. She spent fifteen years in a career position, shortly after she applied for a compliance role at Asphalt Materials, Inc. (AMI).

Julie has been with the company since 2011 and currently works as the lab manager in Marietta. In this role, she is responsible for ensuring all products meet specification requirements before leaving the mill. At the plant, she works closely with Plant Operator Kelly McFarland, who runs the mill.

“Veterans should come to AMI for the opportunities, the investment in your future and a career,” said Julie Mackey.

What Julie enjoys most about her job is the sense of teamwork. One day when she had a flat tire, a coworker immediately stepped in to help without hesitation. Her team consistently supports each other, through the good days and the challenging ones. She also enjoys the variety of her job, as no two days are the same and keep her busy. This is something she also appreciated during her time in the military.

One of AMI’s core values is betting on people. Veterans are drawn to our company because they know they will join a community and culture where hard working individuals support one another, their families and their communities.
