Each year, Asphalt Materials, Inc. (AMI) hosts a Kick-Off meeting in the spring. This gives all our employees the opportunity to share their wins from the past year and discuss their plans for the year ahead.

During this three-day meeting, AMI distributes Core Value Awards to several employees who have showcased our company values through their work. These values include keeping your eyes open for opportunity, betting on people, tackling the big problems, building long-term relationships and mutual trust, doing the right thing always, and creating enduring value. Joins us in congratulating this year’s Core Value Award recipients: Rebecca Rivers-Duncan, Bucky Brooks, Nick Martinelle, and Dan Robinson!

Rebecca Rivers-Duncan: Business Administrator

While Rebecca exemplifies all our core values at AMI, the ones that stand out the most are her ability to build long-term relationships, keeping her eyes open for opportunities and doing the right thing always. As part of the Social Impact Task Force team (SITF) team, she is always looking for ways our company can make a difference in the communities we serve. At our Indianapolis location, she has built excellent relationships with Versiti to host quarterly blood drives at our 8720 office, helping to save lives in Central Indiana.

Rebecca has also built a special relationship with the Coburn Place, which is haven for families escaping domestic violence. AMI supports the families, especially the children, through several donations each year, with this past Christmas being the biggest one. Through Rebecca’s work supporting children at Coburn, she has found additional opportunities to support the Head Start program.

Bucky Brooks: Sales Manager

After devoting 33 years of service to AMI, Bucky retired in January, so Cameron Porter accepted the award on Bucky’s behalf.

Bucky received a dual Core Value award, as his actions exemplify both our values “Bet on People” and “Keep Your Eyes Open for Opportunity.” Bucky’s leadership and mentorship has been impactful to many individuals across the organization. In addition to his people skills, Bucky has always been a seeker of opportunities and solutions for the asphalt industry. He has helped build, teach and grow our CM products across the Midwest region. He is also a pioneer in pavement preservation and has led the charge to integrate new business opportunities.

Bucky’s values extend outside of the AMI business and into the industry, as he will be inducted into the Asphalt Emulsion Manufacturers Association (AEMA) Hall of Fame in 2024. One of Adam Redman’s favorite quotes from Bucky is “I know I can help people.”

Nick Martinelle: Indianapolis Plant Manager

Dan Robinson: Indianapolis Assistant Plant Manager

Both Nick and Dan have received the award for displaying our value “Bet on People.” Dan has always been a hard worker at our Indianapolis site, and just a few years ago was asked to invest in his team to share his vast knowledge. Dan embraced this approach and is a true leader at AMI.

Nick has complimented Dan very well and the two of them together make a great leadership team. Their leadership style focuses on accountability, cross training and ensuring that everyone “has their oar in the water.” The Indy team has a great culture and works together as a family. Through this culture, they focus on the needs of the customers while maintaining high quality and safety standards.
