Asphalt Materials has maintained a positive relationship with Coburn Place Safe Haven since 2022. We have partnered with Coburn Place to host clothing drives, organize Christmas wish lists for the children, volunteer at their facility and more. We are pleased to have a great relationship with Coburn Place and support this organization through yearly initiatives.
What is Coburn Place?
Coburn Place offers support and safe housing choices to survivors of domestic violence and their children in the Indianapolis area. It was founded in 1996 as a transitional housing program for survivors after a need was recognized in the community.
Services that Coburn Place provides include:
Transitional Housing: Survivors live rent-free in their own fully furnished apartment in their safe and secure building.
Community-Based Housing: Coburn places survivors in safe housing with rental assistance and a plan for self-sufficiency.
Well-Being Services: Coburn’s menu of support services is trauma-informed and survivor-led, with a focus on healing and independence.
Children’s Services: Coburn supports the brave children of survivors with programs and opportunities that allow them to thrive and just be kids.
Asphalt Materials & Coburn Place Partnership
AMI is deeply committed to being a positive force in our communities. It is a fundamental belief rooted in our core values and an integral part of our culture.
In September of 2022 we began our initiatives with Coburn by organizing and donating welcome home baskets filled with cleaning supplies, personal hygiene items and bath towels.
We also participated in Coburn Place’s Angel Tree that winter. The organization provided us with a list of books requested by the children for Christmas, and our team members purchased, wrapped and delivered the books ahead of the holiday. We participated in Coburn Place’s Angel Tree in 2023 as well by donating science kits, dolls, shoes, bicycles and more. We collected two truckloads of items ahead of the holiday.
In 2023, we also hosted a back-to-school drive to collect school items for the children and a clothing drive for all family members. We also hosted another clothing drive in 2024 and donated 3,677 items. Asphalt Materials has also gone to the facility to clean the grounds and set up rooms to be move-in ready.
This winter we will sponsor Coburn Place at the Annual Power of Women Summit hosted by the Women’s Fund of Central Indiana, an organization that advocates for women and girls in Central Indiana to have an equitable opportunity to reach their full potential no matter their race, place or identity.
